Melbourne Victory is pleased to confirm it has signed Matildas forward Emily Gielnik on a one-year deal.

A major addition to Victory’s squad, the experienced 26-year-old heads to Melbourne after nine years in the Westfield W-League with Brisbane Roar.

Gielnik revealed that Head Coach Jeff Hopkins’ plans for the 2018/19 season played a big role in her switch to Victory.

“I was ready for a new challenge and after talking to Jeff I decided to make the move to Melbourne,” Gielnik said.

“I can’t wait to get started and meet all the girls, I’m excited for what we can achieve this season.”

Hopkins, who has been working hard to build his team for the new campaign, was delighted to have locked in Gielnik.

“Emily is a great addition to our squad for the upcoming season, she is exactly the kind of player I wanted to bring in,” Hopkins said.

“Not only will she play an important part in our attack, her experience and leadership qualities will be great for the younger players in the group.”

Gielnik joins Laura Alleway, Kyra Cooney-Cross and MelindaJ Barbieri as contracted players for the 2018/19 season.
